Slipper Heroes

…but the slippers remain

This band recently broke up, which is actually quite a shame. Even though I don't really like punk, these guys have managed to make music from this genre surprise me. Vocalist Ola has a clear reference to Blink 182, Green Day and similar bands when it comes to voice utilization.

At times this is quite annoying, because it sometimes comes apparent when listening to some parts of this demo, that this guy has so much more to offer than the average punk vocalist. What also shines through is that the members of “Slipper Heroes” do not only have their roots in punk. If one really takes time to listen to this demo, there are hints of everything from pop to heavy metal. This may very well be the reason they stand out from other punk bands today.

What draws the overall score down with me, is them incorporating “humorous” elements, which are probably more amusing to themselves than the listener… Faking a poor ending where they communicate in English when they are actually from Drammen ( Norway ), becomes a bit out of place in my book. Well, who knows, maybe this is the way punk is supposed to be these days?

I must admit I gave a smile during the opening of “War”, the lyrics: “Now I'm tired of war. Can't we all be friends?” because it sounded a bit naïve and trite… But after contemplating it a bit… Things should actually be that simple!!

Best track: Female Orgie (even though the ending doesn't appeal to me)

“Slipper Heroes” is a must for followers of modern pop-punk. There's more quality in this one band, than in several other bands from this genre put together.
