Dysthymia

Silent Vanquish have released their long awaited first album.
The guys give you prog-metal and then some metal. Their mix of death-, doom-, trash- and heavy, power metal is really something else. It takes some balls to pull this off in a good way.

The album starts of with a speech of a fallen man, just to get you in the mood, and then kicks it in motion with a blast. In true doom spirit the songs are all over seven minutes long and some reach almost ten minutes. Alright!!!
Silent Vanquish use from raw brutal vocals to clean vocals and even vocal harmonics in some parts and it works quiet well setting the mood. The guitars are technical and driving. Bass and drums keep a rock steady beat. Throughout the album the guys show that they respect the music genres they mix and blend.
The sound of the album is somewhat lacking in power. It’s almost as it’s retained or something. I wish it could be more, more, more… Because of this the music doesn’t go all the way for me. It sounds like they’re playing in a basement...
Note: I would like to say that I did not have any info about the album when I was writing this. That’s why you don’t get any song titles…

Depraved
Gothic, viking, progressive, melodic, aggressive...... Silent Vanquish blends all these elements into their own sound, which in turn makes it difficult to put a label on or even compare them to other bands. Sometimes it sounds a bit like Madder Mortem, but everything varies from Theater Of Tragedy's earlier vicious vocals all the way to Dimmu Borgir's more melodious side.

Silent Vanquish doesn't appeal to me personally. The reason for this is that I think they lack the “greatest” songs. They do have an absolute quality that makes them worth checking out, and which makes them stand out from all the regurgitation that rises to the surface in todays music scene and metal world. I believe what make these guys more exciting than most others is that they incorporate the progressive aspect somewhat differently than what one might expect.
"The Obscure Entity In Man" is by my standards the best track, even though some parts of it kind of bores me. But as they say, you can't win'em all.
If your'e open to heavy, dismal and melodic metal, you should definitely lend your ear to Silent Vanquish.
